For hundreds of years of Taiwanese history of the salt industry, countless salt workers (salt laborers, salt administrators, and salt policemen) had participated. Despite solar salt production in Taiwan having stopped, the stories that tell the joy and bitterness of the salt workers and the history of Taiwanese salt industry from different viewpoints shall forever remain in the memories of each of the salt workers.
We sincerely hope that such a precious history may be preserved forever through these people who have stories to tell. |
The edited interviews with these people with stories to tell are collected in the Spoken History Area of “Salt in Taiwan” on the second floor of the Salt Museum. So far, stories told by 100 salt workers have been collected in the database of the Salt Museum.
This plan is still growing. We hope to write down one after another, all of the brilliant stories for understanding salt workers’ lives in detail. Let’s “Listen! The Salt Worker is Telling us a Story!”
